Hi folks

Based on input from the January discussion on Dominion (thank you to Terri for leading a great discussion!), we are holding our March discussion in the East Bay. The book is Vegan Freaks, as selected at the November 2006 book discussion.

We'll be Vegan Freaks and dine on vegan pizza (or lasagna or salad or bread sticks) at Pizza Plaza, the bay area's first and only entirely vegetarian pizzeria! (This place continues to get rave reviews.)

From the book ( http://veganfreak.com/ )

All of us who are vegan have at some time or another just felt like absolute outsiders in the places that we’re supposed to be the most comfortable… our homes, our jobs, and with our friends and families. Though most vegans are likely not any “freakier” than your average person, the simple and compassionate act of denying animal products for ethical reasons can literally make you into the weirdo at the dinner table, or in other social and personal contexts.” (from Chapter One)

We selected The China Study for May 2007. Future suggested book titles/authors - Free the Animals by Ingrid Newkirk, How to Win Friends & Influence People by Dale Carnegie, Gary Francione -- abring your ideas to the March discussion for the July book selection.

Just a heads-up so you can make plans to get the book and start reading. Pease RSVP on the evite so we can plan accordingly. Pizza Plaza is a small restaurant and we'll limit this discussion to 9 RSVPs. Once we know who is coming, maybe we can work out carpools based on location. FYI, Pizza Plaza is about a half-mile from Ashby BART so that's another option.

Cheers,Tammy

"This is my protest against the conduct of the world. To be a vegetarian is to disagree--to disagree with the course of things today. Starvation, world hunger, cruelty, waste, wars--we must make a statement against these things. Vegetarianism is my statement and I think it's a strong one." -- Isaac Bashevis Singer
