Wish Lunardi's a Happy New Year Tomorrow in Walnut Creek!

Walnut Creek, CA - On Sunday, December 31st, East Bay Animal Advocates

(EBAA) will ask Lunardi's Supermarket to make a New Year’s Resolution

to stop selling eggs from chickens raised in overcrowded, wire cages

(known as battery cages).

Sunday, December 31st, 2006

Time: Noon - 1 p.m.

Place: Lunardi's Supermarket, 1600 Palos Verdes Mall (Geary & Pleasant

Hill Road), Walnut Creek

As a high-end grocery chain, Lunardi's proclaims its purported

commitment to excellence: " We can explain our prices, but we don't ever

want to have to justify our quality. "

Recently, EBAA documented conditions at one of Lunardi's egg suppliers.

Shockingly, Lunardi's still sells eggs from chickens confined in

overcrowded, wire cages. Citing concerns over animal care, EBAA has

contacted Lunardi’s many times without a single response. Moreover,

Lunardi's is the lead competitor of Andronico's Market, which stopped

selling battery cage eggs in October 2006.
