Kearny Street Pies

I finally tried Kearny Street Pies on Monday night!

 

I found out they actually serve the pies from Peasant Pies near

Golden Gate Park, which I had actually been wanting to try. The

owner said it's basically a partnership meant to bring the taste and

convenience of Peasant Pies into the financial district.

 

Anyway, I loved the pies! I was so hungry, I ordered three! I got

the spicy eggplant, black olive, and tomato; the curried potato and

eggplant; and the curried garbanzo. All were bursting with flavor.

Very spicy, actually, but I like that. And you know what, the pies

are " hand-held " pies which means they are about the size of a

biscuit. At lunch-time, they have the hot pies on heating pads,

ready for a grab-and-go operation. So it's vegan fast food! Well,

it's not all vegan, they also have pies made with dairy cheese and/or

meat. But I was so happy with the vegan pies I had, I just had to

share my excitement with you all! (I also posted to the Ultimate

Kearny Street Pies has only been open about 2 months, and the owner

said that business hasn't been that great. So I hope that lots of

people will stop by and check this place out. It is located on

Kearny between Bush and Pine streets. They also sell soups and

salads, plus dessert tarts. (The dessert tarts are not vegan.)

 

For holiday dinner planning ... you can call a day ahead and order 12

savory pies for about $34, if I remember right. I'm so excited about

having a really easy and flavorful vegan item to bring! Phone number

is 415.772.9072. They close around 6:00 p.m., so I got lucky the

other night and got my pies right around closing. (I live just 2

blocks away.) I went again the next day at the same time, and they

had already closed up early. But they are definitely open at

lunchtime.
