Hi folks

When Lisa started the book club in 2006 to read general fiction 8 times a year, for the other months, there was a complementary group reading four non-fiction/veg-AR books. This give us an opportunity to read and learn more about vegetarianism/animal rights, and then to have a casual discussion afterwards. And, of course, there's vegan food involved.

Anyways, based on interest in the vegetarian/animal rights selections, we are expanding it to read 6 books, with rotating discussions in SF and South Bay. We would invite interested folks to join our group, and to give us input into future book selections.

Our next book is Dominion, and the discussion will be in SF on Jan 7th over vegan ice cream, sundaes, and floats at MaggieMudd. I've just started reading it, but I think it was a good choice. So far I've found it well-written and quite interesting and engaging, and he presents good arguments in calling for mercy for animals.

The South Bay discussions will likely be in San Jose, with our March book.

Our group is pretty informal - you can attend for all of them, or only one . At the end of the discussion, we solicit suggestions and make a decision for the next book. However, we do need a core group of readers to keep the group active, so if you've been wanting to join us, mark your calendar for the next book.

Please email me if you're interested, or go directly to the calendar listing for the next event -

Titles or authors suggested for future books include Vegan Freaks, China Study, Dale Carnegie's How to Win Friends and Influence People, Tom Regan, Gary Francione, Unnatural Order by Jim Mason, Inner Art of Vegetarianism by Carol Adams, etc.

Cheers,

Tammy

"This is my protest against the conduct of the world. To be a vegetarian is to disagree--to disagree with the course of things today. Starvation, world hunger, cruelty, waste, wars--we must make a statement against these things. Vegetarianism is my statement and I think it's a strong one." -- Isaac Bashevis Singer
