Dear Friends,

On Saturday, November 11, 2006, SaveABunny, known as the San Francisco / Marin Chapter of House Rabbit Society, was notified by House Rabbit Society (HRS) that we were no longer a licensed Chapter of HRS. Therefore, please DO NOT send donations or checks to House Rabbit Society for we will not receive them. If you would like to make a tax-deductible donation to immediately help rabbits, please make checks payable to Friends of San Francisco Animal Care and Control, for SaveABunny. We will receive 100% of the donation and rabbits from all over the Bay Area will benefit. We are in the process of applying for our own 501 c3 status, and until that is finalized, we will be covered under the tax exempt umbrella of The Friends of San Francisco Animal Care and Control, Federal Tax ID number 94-3371620.

While we admire and are deeply grateful for the rabbit knowledge we learned from our seven years with House Rabbit Society, it became increasingly clear that the priorities and values of our two groups were no longer in sync.

We were surprised and saddened by the decision from HRS and tried to mediate a different outcome. We will continue to respect and support the original mission and philosophies of House Rabbit Society and be a positive force for rabbit rescue in the Bay Area and beyond.

SaveABunny has become a leader in rabbit rescue efforts by working creatively and professionally at the front lines of animal shelters and cultivating lasting community partnerships. We are guided by a set of core values that keep us focused on the mission of saving animal lives through the wise use of resources, education and rescue.

We believe that all rabbits are equally worthy of love and rescue efforts, regardless of any personal preferences for the people or groups asking for help on their behalf. We have a zero tolerance policy for politics or behavior that may jeopardize rabbit rescue efforts.

We believe in being accountable for donations and grants by operating in a fiscally responsible way, within our resources, and sharing these resources when possible with other groups. We believe that actions speak louder than words and our work speaks for itself.

We believe in being a voice for the animals. While we recognize that this may not always be a popular stance, honesty and integrity are not to be compromised.

We are excited about our future as an independent rescue group and are aware that times of transition can be challenging. SaveABunny is a new generation of rabbit rescue. We honor the past while embracing the future with new insights and results-oriented programs based on facts, experience and common sense.

We are forming our Board of Directors and so far, our board is comprised of Executive level animal lovers at Marin Humane Society, The Girl Scouts, Wells Fargo and Fortune 100 companies, as well as successful grass roots activists. SaveABunny's progressive and professional approach, along with a history of success, attracts a very talented and committed pool of volunteers---many of whom have been with our organization for 6+ years.

During this time of growth and change we want to clearly thank you for your help in the past, and are also asking for your continued support to help SaveABunny move to the next level.

Please feel free to email me directly with any questions and ideas.

In gratitude and thanksgiving,

Marcy Schaaf

Hi all,

Both SaveABunny and HRS are organizations worthy of donations.

Many of you on this list are familiar with House Rabbit Society and

the rescue and education work that the organization does on behalf

of rabbits across the country. As someone who worked as a volunteer

for HRS for several years, and was also employed as shelter director

at its Richmond, CA, headquarters, I couldn't be prouder of my

relationship with such an effective organization.

While I'm not speaking as a representative of HRS, as someone who

wants my donations to stretch as far as possible to help animals, I

consider my contributions to HRS as money well spent. The

organization operates on a shoestring budget, depending on the

tireless work of tremendously dedicated volunteers and staff—and the

generosity of compassionate donors—to rescue every rabbit possible.

There's no reason why there cannot be several rabbit rescue groups

in the Bay Area. The fact that there are so many rabbits being

abandoned in shelters, on the street, or abused in horrifying

cruelty cases is testimony to the fact that we really need more

people working on this urgent issue.

Thanks so much!

Erin Williams
