Guest guest
Dear Veggie Friends, I would like your assistance in an immediate letter writing campaign to the Pacifica Tribune. A new business in town is opening up called Gorilla Barbeque. Please, right now, if possible (the paper is sent for printing on Monday night), fire off a letter requesting the owners of Gorilla Barbeque change the name of their business. My letter is below. The email for the Pacifica Tribune is pactrib. My 2nd thought was to ask them to make their restaurant vegetarian/vegan but I stopped at asking them to change their name. PLEASE HELP. Thanks, Amy in Pacifica ----------------- pactrib Gorilla Barbeque Dear Editor, I was shocked and dismayed to see a t-shirt at the Fogfest and later a sign on Hwy 1 announcing the opening of a restaurant called Gorilla Barbeque. Gorillas are an endangered species. Along with chimpanzees and bonobos, they are being hunted and eaten to extinction in Africa. This killing and eating of wildlife is referred to as the bushmeat crisis. In Africa, where food and jobs are scare, forests are being torn down to make roads and harvest wood. Hunters are making a living capturing and slaughtering endangered apes for meat. Bushmeat, especially from gorillas, chimpanzees, and bonobos is considered a delicacy in the same way westerners might serve filet mignon or cavier to honored guests. When the adults are killed for meat, the young apes are orphaned and often sold as pets, being raised in horrific conditions among humans until they are old enough to be killed for meat. Luckily, many bushmeat orphans end up in sanctuaries for apes in Africa. But most young apes end up on the barbeque smokers alongside adults of their species. Humans and apes share 96%-98% of our DNA. Although rarely chimpanzees may cannibalize their own species, gorillas and bonobos vegetarians. Wildlife biologists believe that wild apes may be extinct by 2100. What a tragedy for our planet. For more information, please read the following web sites: http://bushmeat.net/ http://karlammann.com/gallery-bushmeat.php http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bushmeat I fully believe the business owners of Gorilla Barbeque have no earthly idea about the Bushmeat Crisis but I hope they will become aware, informed and change the name of their business.
