Guest guest
I'd like to find out what the story is with Picante in Berkeley. I've always considered it to be one of the best Mexican restaurants in the East Bay, and I certainly don't know anyone that does guacamole better. But I've noticed that even though Picante has a separate vegetarian menu with vegan items clearly marked it is not listed in the Ultimate Guide. I did a search on yelp.com and saw several comments about their rice (which is labeled as vegetarian) being made with chicken stock. Does anyone know if this issue was ever addressed or remedied by the restaurant? Is there anything else I should know about? Thanks, Valerie
Guest guest
Hi Valerie Sorry to hear about the issue with Picante. This is pretty common problem to be honest. As far as the Ultimate Guide - Anyone can add a restaurant or veggie friendly/owned business/service. The guide is community built and maintained resource. We really try to keep it as current as possible, but we rely on everyone to help us - especially in cities we rarely visit. Having said that we do have certain standards, so not everything is listed. e.g. There are 100's of Chinese, Thai, or Mexican restaurants out there that can accommodate vegetarians, but listing them all in the guide doesn't really help. Our main focus is the 95 or so Bay Area veggie restaurants, plus places that go the extra mile to be veggie friendly. If somewhere has chicken stock in the rice and label things as vegetarian, then we'd not list them. To add a resource go to the main guide page and look for " Add a business " on the right hand side menu. http://www.bayareaveg.org/ug Take care Chris ph_mom [valsf] Monday, October 02, 2006 10:50 AM Picante in Berkeley I'd like to find out what the story is with Picante in Berkeley.
