Great News: SB1578 Signed into Law

A piece of legislation that will help make California a safer place for dogs and the public—Senate Bill 1578—has been signed into law by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.

 

Thank you everyone who wrote, called or emailed on this.

 

SB1578 will prohibit a person from tethering, fastening, chaining, tying, or restraining a dog to a doghouse, tree, fence, or any other stationary object for longer than three hours in any 24-hour period. Californians can now call on their local animal control, police, or sheriff’s departments to report violations.

Please thank Governor Schwarzenegger for signing SB1578 and ask him to sign AB 2862, which would establish minimum standards for the housing, sanitary conditions, and veterinary care of more species of animals who are sold in pet stores:
