Guest guest
On Saturday, September 30th, all the non-profits on Treasure Island are getting together to host the Treasure Island Annual Community Day Festival 2006. They have asked us if we can provide a vegetarian information booth from 10 am to 4 pm. BAV can't do the usual, wonderful Chris-and-Tammy Deluxe Tabling Experience because of the big event the next day (World Farm Animals Day). But I hate to say no when the island management went out of their way to invite us and actually request veg info! In addition, they are going to give us free space for veg cooking classes, here on Treasure Island, and they will help market the classes to island residents. So this is both a great opportunity to encourage vegetarianism and a chance to set a positive example for working with Treasure Island (something we hope will grow). We will have a simple table and hand out Veg Starter Kits, DVD's, stickers, etc. Very easy. Since I live here, I will set up and break down, but it would be great to have some help during the day because I will be cooking for the next day's cooking classes. If you can come out and " work " the table for a couple of hours that would be wonderful! We would love to have 2 people at the table at all times. Treasure Island is the island in the middle of the Bay Bridge (yes, the bridge will be open that weekend). It's about 7 minutes from downtown San Francisco and 15 from Oakland, depending on traffic. Very easy to get to and a great place to walk and enjoy the views either before or after you table. To get an idea of the island, use Maps.Google.Com and type in: Avenue Palms & California Ave, San Francisco, CA 94130 Please let me know if you're interested, and thanks! Alex P.s. Don't forget to put World Farm Animals Day on your calendar, and be sure to tell everyone you know about it--students, teachers, families with kids, your friends who love their cats and dogs but don't get the veg issue, etc… http://www.bayareaveg.org/wfad/ P.s.2 If you come to Treasure Island, you'll want to bring snacks or lunch (no shops or restaurants on the island) and a jacket. Even when it's hot everywhere else, it's cool and breezy here.
