Guest guest
Hi folks At last nite's dinner at Vegetarian Gourmet in San Mateo, Yaping (the owner) told us the sad news. They are closing 9/5. Curently ranked ninth in the Ultimate Guide Top Ten and a BEST OF VEG 2005 winner This is the only vegan restaurant in San Mateo / San Mateo County and will be sorely missed. http://www.bayareaveg.org/ug/display.htm?id=561 Cheers, Tammy World Farm Animals Day event - Sun Oct 1st - Cooking Demos, Food Samples, Presentations, FREEwww.bayareaveg.org/wfad
Guest guest
That is so awful! The food at Vegetarian Gourmet is delicious and fresh-tasting and the people who run it are so welcoming. Is there anything that can be done to prevent the restaurant's closing? Tami Wall Talk is cheap. Use Messenger to make PC-to-Phone calls. Great rates starting at 1¢/min. Is there >anything that can be done to prevent the restaurant's closing? I know, I certainly have enjoyed dining at Veg Gourmet, too! I don't think there is anything that can be done at this point... sigh. Unless someone has the money and interest to purchase the business and keep it running as a veg*n business (I am not sure if that is even possible as I think they have already signed a contract with a new buyer) This was actually one of the reasons why Peggy volunteered to organize the monthly dinner for Bay Area Vegetarians since last November -- it allowed those of us happy to see a new vegan restaurant on the Peninsula enjoy good food & fellowship on a regular basis, while voting with our dollars for a business trying to compete as a vegan business. My understanding is that the restaurant business is *very* competitive anyways. And when you consider that veg*ns are only a small percentage of the population, well, any restaurant who chooses to be veg just automatically has a much smaller customer base just because they don't have meat on the menu. That's one of the reasons why I personally prefer to dine primarily at veg*n restaurants.
