Guest guest
[Tammy, Chris and all, I hope you will indulge me if this is considered off topic for the list, but I couldn't let this post from my friend Pali go by without forwarding it. I deleted a darling photo - email me privately if you want to see it - of tiny Scooter with the cast on his leg. Pali does amazing work and is always living hand to mouth herself for the sake of the dogs, and sometimes cats, she and her friends rescue. Please help if you can, or at least forward this to any lists or friends you think might be able to. Thanks. Janice] Hello all- First, let me start by saying that Rocket Dog Rescue saves a TON of dogs that no one hears about that need medical care- We fundraise and get our vet bills paid and just go about the business of saving more dogs- I would never send out a plea for help unless we really needed it! Three puppies, about 5 months old, weighing only 5 pounds each.. were struck by a car a few days ago. The car did not stop, check on the puppies, or call for help. Tragically, one baby had been killed at the scene, one had a broken leg, one was not hurt. (later he was diagnosed with a serious illness) The ACC officers that picked them up fell instantly in love with them..they held them for as long as they could, hoping that who ever had lost them would come to claim them- no one ever came. The shelter began to fill up and the pups were in danger of being put down. The shelter called Rocket Dog Rescue asking for us to save them, and we did! (along with 6 others who were to be put down that day..all on the euthanasia list- it was a good day!) These pups are so incredibly sweet! I have never seen a happier couple of pups; they act as if nothing bad had ever touched them, they are so full of joy and trust. The boy with the broken leg is named “Scooter”… He bounces, and spins around your feet and loves to play with all dogs, big, or small! The other sibling, “Peanut” (who was not hurt by the vehicle), was diagnosed by our vet After we rescued him, with a congenital heart disorder that will kill him if he does not have surgery. This puppy is very special, his favorite thing is to jump in your lap and cover your face with tiny butterfly kisses, he is so full of love for life and we want to offer him that chance. With the surgery this nice dog will live a completely healthy and long life. If you held peanut in your arms for even a second, you would see how wonderful he is..he just gazes into your eyes with his sparkly deep brown eyes.. and ..well..there is so much love there..its just bursting out of him..you cannot help but fall for him. He is a gentle and genuinely good dog, I cannot let him die from this... It’s a terrible feeling... We are asking for help with the veterinary care to help these two special needs dogs, and other special medical cases like theirs. If you are able, we need your help with this bill!! No matter what- the pups are safe, we will keep them in our care until they are placed in homes- (They will never go back to a shelter or be put down for lack of funds) hopefully we will pull together enough of the funds to get Peanuts surgery right away- and then pay the rest off as we fundraise more.. Rocket Dog Rescue steps in to save the dogs that others may not.. Dogs who are to be put down in shelters, the cases of extreme neglect, abuse, trauma and with no hope of rescue. We are an all volunteer organization (and happy to be so) and we are funded completely on donations..we are a 501(C3) non-profit so donations are tax deductible- any amount will help!!! PLEASE HELP! Pass this on to others who may be interested in donating-(please) We save so many wonderful animals- and many of them are special cases or need medical attention.. these two pups are but a few of the hundreds that we save in a year- we just don’t have the funds available right now so I am asking for help.. Thank you so much for any help and for caring for those who are in need, Pali Boucher Rocket Dog Rescue P.O. Box 460826 San Francisco CA 94146 www.rocketdogrescue.org (you can donate on-line through pay-pal as well) P.S. Please check out our website- we have so many really great dogs for adoption right now- we will have an adoption fair this Sunday (6-18-06) at Castro and 18th Street ( in front of Bank of America), San Francisco, from 12-4. Stop by and meet Scooter (Peanut will not be there because he will be home staying quiet..) and all of our other dogs and very cool volunteers! You are awesome!! Thank you! To donate to any of our Rocket Dog Rescue funds, just below. From there you can choose whether you want to help our Special Needs Dogs, help with our efforts to build our own shelter (Urban Sanctuary), or just contribute to our General Rocket Dog fund. Thanks so much!!
Guest guest
Hi Janice and everyone Janice, thanks for asking and being thoughtful about use of the mailing list. Just to respond whether this is considered off topic or not -- short answer: this is relevant. Slightly longer answer: The primary purpose of the list is vegetarian/animal rights but animal rescue, housing requests, etc. are also a secondary purpose. So, yes, it's fine to post about rescue groups in the broader SF Bay Area and their efforts to help local critters .. Or, if it's a local event to help animals. There just needs to be some local tie-in since this is a local resource. As a reference, there's the posting guidelines at http://bayareaveg.org/posts.htm On a very related topic -- we don't allow events where meat is served to be promoted and posted, even when it benefits an animal group (which is more typical of animal welfare and conservation groups). If the intent to get activists to protest an event that is serving meat, that's different and is okay. I think for those of us who are already veg, it can be a big surprise (and disappointment) to learn that many local animal welfare & conservation groups serve meat at their events. If anyone is actively involved with animal rescue groups, ask them to adopt an official vegan or vegetarian policy for their events. Animal Place has a " Food for Thought " campaign around this that can provide more info: http://www.animalplace.org/food.html Cheers, Tammy Janice Rothstein [gata] Tiny puppies hit by car - please help Rocket Dog Rescue!
