Hi folks

Since so many of you have supported the local KFC Cruelty protests, I wanted to pass along this email from Ingrid Newkirk about the KFC campaign. You can find more info about the campaign directly at http://kfccruelty.com and sign up to receive alerts directly from PETA at http://animalactivist.com

Cheers,

Tammy

=================================

Greetings,

I wanted to take a moment to thank you. You've all made such a difference in how animals live and die because of your participation in PETA’s campaign to reform KFC. Although KFC is digging in its heels, please know that we are too! We will not rest until KFC stops breeding and drugging chickens so that they can't even walk or are in pain when they do and until KFC stops scalding these dear birds to death while they are still conscious.

I'm glad to say that the KFC campaign does more than just agitate against KFC: It is a hugely effective tool in waking people up to the suffering of the billions of young chickens killed for U.S. mouths every year. So just by protesting and leafleting at KFC, we win victories for animals before we win the actual campaign.

Just the other day, I interviewed someone for a job. Her interest in animal rights came from hearing about the KFC campaign. She started to read about the KFC case, then more, and the next thing she knew, she was vegetarian and an activist! That's all thanks to someone out there holding a demo!

There are lots more people who have been influenced this way. Did you know that in his radio commentary to more than 400 stations, Donald Trump said, in support of our campaign, "After reviewing this whole subject matter, I don't think I'll ever have a chicken sandwich again." What a coup! Every time that someone is handed a leaflet or is shown a demo poster, it counts. That simple act leads countless people to our Web site, where they view the horrific video footage of chicken suffering and cruel killing. Every time that even the briefest letter to the editor or article about our KFC campaign is published, people's eyes are opened and people change. Many become vegetarian or vegan. Considering that chickens are some of the most abused animals on the planet, we certainly need as many people as possible to start thinking of them as beings who count for something.

When PETA started in my basement more than 25 years ago, I never imagined what an impact we would have. But through volunteer help, plain-old word of mouth, and, of course, creative and controversial demonstrations and ads, PETA has put animal rights on the map. Now, the mainstream media regularly reports on animal issues, companies as big as McDonald's and Gillette—which we campaigned against for 10 years before it stopped testing on animals, educating millions about the issue along the way—have taken giant strides to reduce the suffering of animals, and industries that harm animals are nervous Nellies.

You are important to this equation. None of this could have been done without the help of dedicated activists like you. So while the big victories don't come overnight, even the seemingly insignificant actions that we take—like leaving leaflets at a library and talking to our friends about KFC—make a huge impact. Please know that you are changing the world, and please keep as active as you possibly can. Thank you!

Kind regards,

Ingrid E. NewkirkPresident

P.S. A great way to help is by organizing a "Freedom From Torture" demo on July 4 at your local KFC. You can e-mail our wonderful Nicole Matthews [NicoleM] to get started. Don't forget to include your full name, address, and phone number in your e-mail.
