Dear Everyone,

There are some parties going on locally to raise awareness and funds for the Pet Evacuation and Standards Act (PETS Act), which is before Congress.

There are parties across the country, but there are two in the Bay Area that still have room (There are five parties altogether, but three are full).

This act would make it so that companion animals must be provided for in disasters.

For the parties that are on June 11, Wayne Pacelle (President of the Humane Society), Senator Ted Kennedy and Eric Roberts (actor/activist) will be participating via national conference call at 4:30 PM Pacific Time.

You can also sign up to host a PETS Act Party, on June 11th or for a later date. To host one of these vitally important parties, please go to hsus.org and click on the upper right corner, Party with a Purpose, which will direct you to the proper page.

*** To RSVP to either of the parties below, please go to hsus.org and click on Party with a Purpose in the upper right hand corner. This will direct you to the correct page to RSVP Please do RSVP so that the hosts know how many people to expect.**

The San Francisco party is being organized by Brian Cooley. It is vegetarian. It's June 11th at 3 PM at CNET Networks, 235 2nd Street, San Francisco.

The Berkeley party is being organized by Therese Brewitz. **I have not yet heard back from Therese, so I do not know yet whether the party is vegetarian.** This party is not until June 17th, so I think I will hear from Therese by then.

When I hear if her party is vegetarian or not, I will post it immediately. Since it is in a public place, it may depend on what food The Missouri Lounge does or does not serve. As I say, I will let everyone know as soon as I do.

June 17th at 9 PM

The Missouri Lounge, 2600 San Pablo Ave., Berkeley

Let's All get together to show Congress we care about how animals are treated in a disaster and to make sure Katrina never happens again!
