New American Rabbit Meat Industry Report

Defined as multi-use animals, rabbits are raised for a wide

variety of American markets, including pet sales, pelt trade,

laboratory research, show circuits and food production. The

various rabbit sectors work in conjunction with each other.

Today, metropolitan grocery stores and high-end restaurants are

the chief retailers of commercial rabbit meat. Rabbit meat is

also sold via the Internet. Americans consumed between 8 and 10

million pounds of rabbit meat annually. Each year over eight

million rabbits are raised and slaughtered for their meat by

approximately 200,000 producers across the country

Advocate Focus: Masha Furman

Vivid color and creativity is key to protecting chickens - just

ask Masha Furman. Originally from Moscow, Masha is the designer

of EBAA's new Foster Farms campaign posters and frequently

advocates for poultry in the Bay Area. Currently, she is a

children's art teacher in San Jose. Masha uses her ability to

teach as a mechanism to spread compassion to youth.
