ACC's 17th Anniversary " Green for the Green " Dollars-for-the-Dog-Park Party

 

ACC's 17th Anniversary Party? " Green for the Green " ? Dollars for the Dog

Park? Whatever you call it, the event slated for Sunday, July 16, 2006 at

the City's municipal animal shelter promises to be a fun and rewarding bash.

Admission to the " G4G Party " (for short) is $25 a person and will help fund

a complete resurfacing of the shelter's adjacent dog park (the actual site

of the party) with artificial doggy turf. Other park improvements in the

planning stage are benches and a rabbit play area.

 

You're Invited!

The public is invited to San Francisco Animal Care and Control (ACC), 1200

15th Street (at Harrison) on that evening, 6-9:30 p.m., for delicious

vegetarian and vegan food, desserts, wines, a silent auction, live jazz and

a few surprises. Dogs are welcome!

 

Improving on Mother Nature

The current grass ground cover becomes a miserable, muddy bog during rainy

months and requires periodic resodding, which can keep the park closed.

Because of heavy use by the shelter's dogs, both those up for adoption and

those in the custody of the shelter, as well as other animals, like rabbits,

the grass is difficult to keep sanitary, tends to pool water in wet weather

and is a gardening nightmare. The new artificial turf, chosen after months

of research, will have a built-in drainage system, requires virtually no

maintenance, is a cinch to keep clean and is safer and much more pleasant

for the dogs and their handlers. Because some dogs take longer to get

adopted, or for their court cases to get settled, they may remain at ACC for

weeks or even months. The quality of their socializing and play time partly

depends on the condition of the dog park.

 

Volunteer and Donor Discount

Produced and sponsored by the Friends of San Francisco Animal Care and

Control (FSFACC), ACC's G4G Party will also admit ACC volunteers and staff,

the volunteers of ACC's rescue partners and FSFACC donors (since July 2005)

on a " pay-what-you-can " basis. Auction prize donors will be admitted free.
