Hi folks

I am not sure how many folks are interested in an entirely vegetarian/vegan restaurant in San Mateo, so please encourage your family/friends who enjoy vegetarian foods and are in that area to try Vegetarian Gourmet. If you haven't been there yet, join us on Friday for Peggy's dinner. I'll share what's been my favorite dishes there in case you'd like some suggestions.

Appetizer

Chinese Pan Cake - these are made from scratch in their kitchen; it's two layers of a thin, fried patty with vegetarian oyster sauce in the middle. Similar concept to scallion pancakes at Garden Fresh.

Entrees - entirely veg

Curry Vegetable (broccoli, carrots, onions, etc. served in a curry sauce)

Sauteed Spinach (simple yet tasty dish of sauteed spinach served with lots of garlic)

Tofu Roll (the tofu roll refers to layers of bean curd wrapped into a roll, and then cut into bite-sized pieces; served with veggies in a brown sauce)

Family Style Tofu (mixed veggie & tofu dish)

Stir Fried Asparagus

Fake Meat Dishes

Curry Chicken (potato, carrots & fake chicken meat served in a yum my curry sauce; the potato makes this sauce much thicker/tastier than the curry veg dish)

Chen Pi Vegetarian Beef (made from mushrooms; shaped into thick chunks of beef, like Orange Beef at Garden Fresh; served with broccoli)

Sweet & Sour Vegetarian Pork (little deep fried nuggets in sweet & sour sauce)

Vegetarian Ham

FYI, the only faux beef I like is the Chen Pi. I don't find the other faux beef dishes that appealing. And the vegetarian mushroom eel was not a favorite, either.

The restaurant also has a website

Oh, and for anyone interested, the dinner on Friday is at 6:30 pm, too.
