We would like to ask that everyone read this post. We know that most

of you don't need this reminder ... and those that do need a reminder

won't read it anyways, but will still argue that no one told them :-)

This month marks 4 and a half years since the list SFBAVEG started.

Our posting guidelines have been central in maintaining the list as a

useful resource for the veg*n and animal rights community in the San

Francisco Bay Area.

From feedback we receive, we know people get a lot of value from the

list and we want to keep it that way.

Currently our small volunteer list admin crew proactively works with

folks who forget about the guidelines and want to post stuff that's

either off-topic or inappropriate. Yes, this does take time, and it

can be repetitive, but it's necessary to keep the list focused.

After all, folks want to read veg & AR stuff on SFBAVEG, not posts

about other topics.

Going forward, there will be two changes in our list administration

and guidelines:

1) We will no longer be sending out courtesy reminders to folks whose

posts are inappropriate for any of the following 3 reasons:

-Anonymous posts

-Off-topic posts (not veg or animal rights related)

-News reposts that are not locally relevant or do not have a

discussion point raised by the person posting it

As stated in the posting guidelines, " Posts which do not meet

these guidelines may be deleted or rejected without notice. "

2) Clarification of guideline for news reposts

When posting about locally relevant news articles, or when you

wish to discuss a specific aspect of an article, it's preferable if

you can summarize the article, share a relevant excerpt, and/or

include a link to the full article. For long links, you may wish to

use a " tinyurl " instead ( see tinyurl.com ). As a guideline, please

keep this summary or excerpt under two screens worth of information.

The Charter and full posting guidelines are available at

http://BayAreaVeg.org/charter

http://BayAreaVeg.org/posts.htm

And please remember:

-Not all posts are moderated, so on occasion there may be an

inappropriate post published.

-Many SFBAVEG rs are on digest, and it is always a

much appreciated courtesy to cut/paste only the relevant portion,

especially when replying to earlier posts.

-Attachments are only distributed to rs receiving

individual emails, and are not available to rs on digest or

reading list archives online.

Thanks to everyone who has shared and contributed to SFBAVEG! As

with any shared resource, it is the sum of all of our individual

efforts that make this list what it is today.
