hello!

I just moved here and i'm doing the dreaded business plan for my new

vegan bakery business to launch here in the bay area this year,

possibly east bay, and i'm wondering if anyone can direct me to some

information that will help for my biz plan and to appeal (appease!)

the investors.

Here are some of the things i'm looking for....

-Any possible estimate of veg*ans in the bay area? I know there's a

big population here, maybe the biggest in the country next to new york

or portland for example, but something to put on paper perhaps.

-(personal question for you the customers) do you feel a need for more

vegan bakery options- i know silly question!! (please feel free to

elaborate as much as you'd like!) ie. what is missing/needed, what

would you like to see more of, where is it most needed, if it existed-

why would you support it, is this already too saturated?

-Something i'd also really like to present is how GREAT veganism is.

We all know the reasons why it's so great, but is there a good site or

any information you can recommend that gives good numbers, such as

health, resources, diseases, environment, animals, things that would

lend to growing trends in veganism in the present and future?

I guess lastly, please just let me know your input if anything as to

what you'd like to see in a vegan bakery. I know ya'll are foodies,

and you know what you like, so please share what would make for a

great bakery experience, what you love/hate/crave, what pleases you in

an atmosphere. If you walked in what would you like to see in the case?

Also, if you are buying currently, where do you go to get bakery

items/sweets? What would you change about it, if anything?

(Just researching " competition " and saturated market here)

I appreciate anything you can share with me, as i'm starting from

square one and i really want to WOW my investors with good juicy

information from experienced food loving veteran vegans of this area! :-)

thank you so much for your time and input

Jimmy

I want to extend a big welcome to the Bay Area and lot of whole-

hearted support to Jimmy for opening a new vegan bakery! I often

have a craving for sweet things like cookies and scones, and I

totally wish it were easier to find vegan baked goods. I think it

would be great if your business model included delivering baked goods

to cafes, delis, convenience stores, and coffee shops around the Bay

Area. It is so hard to find a vegan treat if you're just meandering

through the financial district in San Francisco or downtown Oakland.

Does anybody else out there have this same issue? Maybe I just don't

know where to look ...

In addition to the delivery service, I definitely think a vegan

bakery cafe where people can stop in and enjoy dessert or their

coffee break would be very cool! I'd want to visit a place that went

all out with guilty pleasures like vegan donuts, muffins, scones,

cakes ... maybe even vegan ice cream cakes. Come to think of it,

vegan ice cream is so hard to come by ... an ice cream counter would

be awesome! If you're expecting to get a lot of spontaneous walk-

through customers, it might help to be subtle about it and NOT use

VEGAN in big letters on the sign. If it appears to be just a totally

scrumptious bakery, lots of non-veg folks will wander in looking for

something sweet and end up supporting your business! And the veg

people will wander in, like we always do, hopeful about finding some

vegan option, and then pleasantly surprised and AMAZED!

Best wishes to Jimmy and anyone else looking to expand veg options in

the Bay Area. I definitely don't think the market is oversaturated

with vegan baked goods for two reasons: 1) I can hardly ever find any

vegan baked goods, and 2) I believe the vegan market is growing

because we are working to educate people and expand the vegetarian

population more and more every day.
