Guest guest
Hi folks Just thought I'd give you an update ... Our Meat-Out event this past Sunday went well - we set-up near the beach with a canopy and sign that said "Free Samples". Assistant Chef Oliver cut up the burgers and sausages, Chef Alex sauteed onions and vegan faux meat samples, and our cow & chicken costumed helpers, Amy & Chris respectively, distributed the samples to interested folks. It was a great event - people were very receptive, we gave out all the samples, and the time just flew by. All told, we raised awareness of what cholesterol-free faux meats taste like, that they can be purchased at a local store like Safeways, distributed various literature, and about 200 samples of vegan faux meat. The Boca burger and chicken patties, as well as Tofurky sausages, were very well-received. Turtle Island Foods (the folks who also make Tofurky) has been very generous in donating to us this year, as well as last year, for our Meat Out events on the coast. Thank you Turtle Island!! We're thinking to do this again in May over Memorial Day weekend. We're considering repeating burgers what we did, and adding vegan ice cream ... There were 5 of us, and if we add ice cream, I think we'll need another 4 or 5 people. If you're interested in helping, please email me. Or maybe you'd consider organizing something like this yourself? To be a vegetarian is to disagree--to disagree with the course of things today. Starvation, world hunger, cruelty, waste, wars--we must make a statement against these things. Vegetarianism is my statement and I think it's a strong one." -- Isaac Bashevis Singer
