Guest guest
Ira, there is no way a potato feels stomach acid. The potato is fully cooked and dead before hitting your stomach! --Tracy Ira Hankin <iratemix Sent: Tue, 21 Mar 2006 15:44:32 -0800 (PST) SF Bay Guardian VEG - OUT ad... Did anyone see the March 15th issue of the SF Bay Guardian's "Veg-Out" weekly advertisment page? This "Veg-Out" advertisement page is usually a collection of vegetarian friendly businesses such as Rainbow Groceries, Other Avenues & Anada Fuara Restaurant buying a page in the SF Bay Guardian. And each week they usually have this "Did You Know..." feature where they talk about some aspect of vegetarianism. I was shocked to read this week's "Did You Know..." I will type it out for you all to read: "Did you know... ...that vegetables, fruits, even grains have recently been shown to feel pain, & even "scream" in frequencies inaudible to human ears? Scientists now believe that the pain a potato feels as it is slowly dissolved in stomach acid is 3-400 times greter than a cow feels from a quick blow to the skull, and perhaps as much as 2000 times greater than a chicken killed using halaal Thabiha methodology!" I could not believe that an ad supposedly published to promote vegetarianism would contain such a statement. I wonder what "scientists" now believe that vegetables... feel more pain? What study does this come from? Was this a joke by some one at the SF Bay Guardian on vegetarians?
