Guest guest Posted March 5, 2006 Report Share Posted March 5, 2006 Hi folks, Just wanted to follow-up - we had our protest in Pacifica yesterday at noon. This monthly protest (as well as others happening locally) is in support of PETAs campaign asking for welfare reforms from KFC (more info at http://kfccruelty.com ) Thankfully no rain - slightly overcast and breezy - and lots of traffic. As people drove by, we could see their lips moving as they read the signs aloud -- "Boycott KFC" or "Beaks Cut Off". I know Pacifica isn't exactly the bastion of veggie friendliness, but we got a lot of supportive waves, thumbs-up and honks from people driving by. I did overhear one person as they drove by encouraging us to get a job. As someone who does have a full-time job, I definitely consider my volunteer activities for the animals among my most meaningful and worthwhile efforts. Carol (who organizes the monthly KFC protest in the South Bay) told me that Mike Borg, who bills himself as "The 6 foot Chicken Man", did a sign "Honk if you hate animal cruelty". They then got a whole lot of honks which brings more support and attention. So, it was a great protest - we had five people, and would love to get a regular crew of 5 to 8 volunteers at every protest every month. Our next demo in Pacifica is Sunday 3/26 from noon to 1 pm, and after the daylight savings time change, we're thinking of moving to a weekday evening. If you'd like to participate in a KFC demo but there's not one currently happening, think about organizing it yourself or post to the list to see if you can connect with others in your area who may be able to organize. For example, Lance in Emeryville can't organize but would support one. PETA will provide the literature & signs.
