Guest guest
Help Needed with Katrina Dogs Feb 28, 2006 1:32 PM A local pets-in-disaster volunteer would very much appreciate any and all doglovers volunteer help in rescuing katrina dogs that are now, 6 months later, ending up in gas-kill animal facilities in the gulfcoast. Urgently needed are: =Foster parents to nurture a dog while the rescuegroup takes care of medical and adoption. This is usually about a month, but could be more or less. This is non-committal, and if the dog does not work out in your household, we will p.u. immediately! THIS IS THE FIRST STEP IN SAVING A LIFE !!! When we have even temporary good homes for them, we can be their last resort when their deadline comes up...We must screen our fosterhomes...often spay/neuter, other medical happens in this phase. = Adoptive parents. You won't regret having a lifelong brown eyed companion who would have met a terrible death without your care and compassion, and finding out the many goodnesses a dog has to share... Also a suitable buddy for your dog stops their loneliness when you have to 'go out and earn the dogfood'.. = Help caring for a few dogs at at time at their transfer point in the valley, where they first arrive from their transport. They need all the love and walks and strokes and connection that you can offer, as it has been a long road for all of them. = Help with posting photos on internet rescu, and other internet networking, from your or our home. =help spreading the word for adoptions through flyers, and to your own dogloving connections. The usual screening and adoption fees apply. = help transporting dogs to rescue-vets and adoption possiblities, often in the larger bay area. Transport van and skykennels available. = financial donations of any size are put to use immediately! This endeavour will be hard for us to keep up if our many expenses don't get reimbursed somehow.. This is a very rewarding endeavour. The larger a volunteer network we have, the more lives we can save in this last post-katrina phase. Many local people in the hurricane stricken areas are involved with all the logistics on that end, in spite of all their own problems. I hope you all have been attending the disaster preparations in our valley. In a form yet unknown, it can happen anywhere to anyone. It is the first hand experience of the reality of the total chaos in a disaster, when all systems break down and only human hearts matter, that propels us into this labor of love for the animals now. After my experiences in the abandoned streets of new orleans, i have been getting certification in pet-disaster trainings. Anyone interested in creating a valley network regarding this, is welcome to contact us. Any horsepeople who want to help the distressed horses in hurricane stricken areas right now, please contact us for more info.
