Guest guest
Hi folks, I received an email from an interviewer/research assistant from the Northern California Cancer Center (NCCC) who is looking for girls ages 10-13 to participate in a study entitled "The GRowth and LifeStyle (GRLS) Study". According to Claudia at Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) who researched NCCC, "they dont' use animals, if they do experiments they are on people or they extrapolate info from other experiments done in vitro." PCRM will be adding them to their list of humane charities that do not use animal experiments/testing (see www.humaneseal.org). It would be great to get some veg*n girls in this study. Here's the announcement: GRowth and LifeStyle (GRLS) Study: The Northern California CancerCenter is currently recruiting for an adolescent health research study which will examine how diet (specifically soy intake), exercise, andgenetics influence growth and development during puberty. This study isfunded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and will helpresearchers identify breast cancer risk factors. Participation involves completing 3 face-to-face interviews (about diet and exercise habits)and giving saliva, urine, and blood samples (if willing). In total, participation should take fewer than 8 hours over a two-year period and girls will be given up to $75 for their participation.Right now we are looking for 10-13 year-old non-Asian girls that eat alot of soy (more than 2 servings a week) as well as 10-13 year old Asiangirls that don't eat soy at all or eat very little soy (less than one serving a week). If you know someone that meets these criteria and maybe interested, please call 1-800-541-GRLS(4757) or e-mail GRLSand leave your contact information so that GRLS Study staff can call you to discuss the study further and answer any questions that you may have. For more information, please visit the GRLS Study website:www.grlsstudy.org . I just wanted to add that I am not affiliated with NCCC. I was contacted by the research assistant who saw my contact info for the February Bay Area Vegetarians' Bay Leaf Café dinner. Which, btw, will be on March 14 at 7pm (http://www.bayareaveg.org/events.htm?EID=1163#1163). (I'll post more reminders soon.)
