It's nice to know that these particular pups [and hopefully their mother as well] will not be used in invasive and lethal experimentation/surgeries by student vets or teaching staff. However, draconian policies such as these are prevalent throughout the U.S. and abroad. There really is no VALID excuse to use living, sentient beings for these purposes. Tens of thousands of dogs and cats are euthanized around major cities continuously-- in every state. Many of these animals are tossed into dumpsters and end up being "rendered" into pet food. A clear danger to our companions, which end up consuming them. A much more judicious use for these poor souls would be to have them delivered to vet teaching facilities so that students can perform practice surgeries on them. These deceased animals are infinitely more valuable [than the living and healthy] due to the fact that many can be used to teach students to recognize certain disease processes first hand. The supply of these animals [unfortunately] is never-ending, and would cost nothing but the gasoline required to pick up the bodies. Perhaps this is an idea you might consider bringing up at the next school board or faculty meeting. Cutting costs while saving innocents lives, as well as increasing student empathy levels within the vet profession, is a win-win situation for all. Sincerely, Brennan Browne The concept of 'animal rights' values the simple premise that ALL living creatures have a "right" to be allowed to live their lives as originally intended; without victimization--free from brutality. It is a right that EVERY being strives for.~Brennan Browne~
