Guest guest
WDCS Help us protect the UK’s whales and dolphins Dear Friend We need your help to protect the UK’s whales and dolphins from the numerous threats they face around our coastline. The recent report by WDCS, The Conservation of British Cetaceans, has found that the UK government is not doing enough to protect the whales and dolphins that live around the UK from threats including entanglement in fishing nets, pollution, loss of habitat and increasingly the loud noises from industry and other sources that pervade their environment. Outdated laws currently do little to help whales and dolphins, yet there are over two dozen species in UK waters, and some, like the bottlenose dolphin, are already rare. All are little studied and human impacts on them happen mainly out of sight. This needs to change and, as we continue to increase our activities inshore and offshore, so we need to improve existing laws and enforcement measures to give these animals improved protection. We need you and your friends to sign our e-petition to call on Hilary Benn, the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs to act now to protect the UK’s whales and dolphins and progress the government’s plan for a Marine Bill. Please join us in urging the UK Government to act now before it is too late.
