America's polar bears could be extinct within 50 years. Help us protect one of their few remaining homes. Make a stand for polar bears! Tell Congress to permanently protect the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. http://action.defenders.org/site/R?i=lKPVoXImu9I9xn9frOQLgg.. Fast Fact Polar bears are strong swimmers, but even these marine mammals are drowning in their search for disappearing sea ice, vital for hunting seals. As news becomes ever more grim for polar bears, we finally have a chance to permanently safeguard the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge -- one of the most important habitats they have left. Write your elected officials today and urge them to support the Udall-Eisenhower Arctic Wilderness Act (H.R. 39), a bill that would permanently protect the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. In a report issued last week, the government's top scientists have painted a bleak picture: polar bears will likely disappear entirely from Alaska within 50 short years due to a drastic decline in Arctic sea ice. To make matters worse, ExxonMobil and other big oil companies continue to push for drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge -- one of the most important onshore denning habitats for America's remaining polar bears. With around 400 crude oil and toxic spills each year, the Prudhoe oil field (just 30 miles west of the Arctic Refuge) is testament to the destruction that the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge would face if Big Oil were allowed in. Now, we have a chance to safeguard this special place -- permanently. The Udall-Eisenhower Arctic Wilderness Act will make the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge forever off limits to Big Oil's rigs -- and give America's polar bears a fighting chance to survive. Butto preserve the Arctic Refuge for good, your elected officials must hear from you. Tell Congress to support this legislation. It is vital to protecting our remaining polar bears and other Arctic wildlife. http://action.defenders.org/site/R?i=lKPVoXImu9I9xn9frOQLgg.. In just a few short decades, America's polar bears could be gone. Our polar bears can't wait -- we must act now to preserve what's left of their quickly disappearing home.
