Guest guest
Please sign petition to Stop the Salem Nuke Fish Slaughter The 5 year permit that has allowed PSEG to slaughter BILLIONS of fish everyyear by not building closed cooling systems at their two nuclear plants insouthern New Jersey, has expired. The permit is now up for renewal or even reversal. The two nuclear plants, Salem Units 1 and 2, use 3 BILLION gallons ofDelaware Bay water each day to cool the nuke plants. This once-throughcooling kills fish by temperature change, by being smashed on the screensand the cooling tube walls.Fish species impacted include:Herrings (alewife & blueback), Atlantic croaker, American Shad, Spot,Striped bass. White perch, Bay anchovy, and Weakfish. We're trying to gather 1000s of signatures both via the internet and on hardcopy to help convince the NJ Department of Environmental Protection tofinally do the right thing and Stop the Salem Nuke Fish Slaughter. The DEPis currently deciding whether or not to require the Oyster Creek Nuclearplant to build cooling towers. When that decision is finalized, the DEP willthen move on to the Salem Nuke permit. We want to use this time to build upas much support as we can to end the Salem Nuke Fish Slaughter.
