Hi Tao,Trees are part of our lives; they have always followed humanity offering their fruits, their shadow to cool the hot sun, and their high branches to shelter from the hazards of the land. They offer us dried branches to start a fire and their bark to leave our memories engraved. Trees and Memories Photo by: naerilEach one of us has our own memories and stories with trees; a house in their branches, a monkey pantomime, and acrobatic dreams swinging and hanging from their branches. A secret love engraved forever in its wood with two magical letters drawn into a heart. What follows in the article below is a story written by a Tree-Nation member just like you. We want to share this story with you which was written on the 10,000 messages tree, or the 10,000 stories. The next story could be yours. Remember that when we get to 10,000 messages 1000 more trees will be planted in our heart in Africa. I hope you like this story. A Story of Trees and Secrets " When I was a little kid I remember my grandfather taking me every Sunday to a huge park (at least huge for a 4 year old kid) full of things to play with. It also had a little train that ran through it and men that were selling candies and roasted peanuts. I remember that, besides playing, my grandfather and I had a mission. The park was full of some huge trees with seeds that fell in autumn. They were eucalypts, enormous, so very tall, and full of seeds. The park's eucalypts were the first trees with a name in my life. We had to look for them and fill our fabric bags with their seeds, and even fill our pockets to get the most we could. When we came back home at lunch time, my grandfather put an iron pot on top of the dining room's stove and put part of our plunder inside. The water, after boiling for a while, turned as black as coal and the steam coming up perfumed the whole house. My grandfather told me to take deep breaths of that steam to prevent getting a cold, and as all of us breathed the same, nobody would get a cold, not my mom, not my dad and not my granny. My grandfather taught me, with this secret potion that I helped him prepare every Sunday, the value of nature and its secrets, and most importantly, the value of taking care and protects my family. When I was a child I loved those eucalypts and now as an adult they still make me remember my grandfather. Most of those eucalypts are still there, they saw me grow, and kept giving their seeds to those who knew the secret and have the love necessary to make the potion. When I walk the narrow paths of the park surrounded by eucalypts I have the feeling that they also remember me when I was 4 and that they, as I do, also remember my grandfather.
