The 5 year permit that has allowed PSEG to slaughter

BILLIONS of fish every year by not building closed cooling systems at

their two nuclear plants in southern New Jersey, has expired.

 

 

 

 

 

The permit is now up for renewal or even reversal.

 

 

 

 

 

The two nuclear plants, Salem Units 1 and 2, use 3

BILLION gallons of Delaware Bay water each day to cool the nuke plants. This once-through

cooling kills fish by temperature change, by being smashed on the screens and

the cooling tube walls.

 

 

 

 

 

Fish species impacted include:

 

 

Herrings (alewife &

blueback), Atlantic croaker, American Shad, Spot, Striped bass. White perch,

Bay anchovy, and Weakfish.

 

 

 

 

 

We're trying to gather 1000s of signatures

both via the internet and on hard copy to help convince the NJ Department of

Environmental Protection to finally do the right thing and Stop the Salem Nuke

Fish Slaughter. The DEP is currently deciding

whether or not to require the Oyster Creek Nuclear plant to build cooling

towers. When that decision is finalized, the DEP will then move on to the Salem

Nuke permit. We want to use this time to build up as much support as we can to

end the Salem Nuke Fish Slaughter.
