Take Action on Endangered Species Day!

It's Endangered Species Day! How can you celebrate? Speak up for the law

that inspired this holiday.

ANY DAY NOW, both the House of Representatives and the Senate will be making

important decisions about the Endangered Species Act. They need to hear from

you!

Send your Members of Congress a special message in support of Endangered

Species Recovery Act and also fair funding for endangered species

management:

Together, we can make sure America's wildlife gets the protection they

deserve!

Speak up for endangered species. Ask your representatives to:

Co-sponsor the Endangered Species Recovery Act (H.R. 1422), a tax incentive

bill for private landowners that help imperiled wildlife on their property.

Support fair funding for endangered species management, and make sure the

U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and National Oceanic and Atmospheric

Administration's National Marine Fisheries Service get the support they

need.

SPOTLIGHT SPECIES: Canada Lynx

With its bobbed tail, tufted ears and large furry feet, the Canada Lynx is

an icon of American wildlife. Once found throughout the northern tier of

states, the cat has struggled to maintain a hold on its shrinking northern

boreal forest habitat.

The good news is that thanks to the Endangered Species Act, lynx numbers are

on the way up. Maine now harbors the largest lynx population in the East and

lynx populations have expanded in size and range. Moreover, private

landowners are working with conservationists and state and federal agencies

to protect habitat for lynx.

Despite this success, this threatened species has future challenges to face.

Global warming could reduce the deep snows that historically have blanketed

Maine's north woods and causing other predators such as coyotes and bobcats

to out-compete lynx.

Speak up for the lynx! Make sure the federal agencies in charge of

protecting these cats get the funding they need:

titled Fair Funding for Wildlife, detailing just how important proper

funding is to saving wildlife from the brink of extinction. Learn more...
