Guest guest
The petition against Bradford County Animal Control is untrue and grossly exaggerated. . . Everybody who knows me knows that I stand up for what's right and speak my mind and the truth. A yr ago I stood up against the Putnam Co Sheriff's Dept and pound because dogs are only held there 3-5 days and Bull breeds are given even less time and are not allowed to be adopted out. Their kennels are sprayed out with the dogs still remaining in the kennels getting wet, their food getting wet and soggy. They have NO Vet on call there at all. Their adoption time is only 2-4...pm...Monday through Friday. You also have to be a 501 ©3 to pull from there. Now let's take Bradford County. You can adopt anytime there Monday through Friday that they are open. They hold their dogs for 14 days. When they clean their kennels, they protect the dogs by moving them to a separate kennel so the dogs do not get cold or wet and so the food stays intact. They allow you to adopt out Bull Breeds which considering all the bad press they get makes a very huge statement on their part. There is nobody that enjoys euthanasia but without it we would be over-ridden with dogs and cats. If the pound gave you the green light to take every single dog out of there, you'd be talking 5,000 dogs a year. I have personally worked with Tracy and have never seen a cleaner pound or met anyone who cares as much as Tracy does about the animals. When it " s cold she brings certain dogs or puppies at risk into her office to keep them warm. We have personally seen small dogs without much fur and Mamma dogs with small babies crouding her office... . Is that someone who wants to kill dogs? We cannot save them all. It's easy to be an armchair quarterback and sit back and say you want to save all the sweet faces, but the bottom line is we can't. There are people I know right now that keep pulling dogs without having a place to even put them. We have to look at pulling good, adoptable dogs and key on adoption. I don't mean boarding dogs and moving them from place to place. Not every dog is adoptable. I have not met the sheriff at Bradford County but if I were him right now I'd be getting pretty PO'd. He would have every right if he wanted to to make it a 5 day holding and stop letting people save bullys like other counties. But he obviously has a heart for these dogs for which we should be grateful. Everybody says this is about the dogs and it's the dogs who pay the price....so before you crusaders shoot yourself in the foot, try going into most pounds and find out what their holding time is and what they do with bullys and you will be thankful for the policies of Bradford County.
