Guest guest
[from care2.com] Alaska's beautiful Tongass National Forest in Alaska is in danger of being lost forever. The Forest Service is determining its fate very soon, following a brief public comment period during which you can make a difference! http://go.care2.com/e/R5jr/esWc/S0uZ Since 1982, an estimated one billion of taxpayers' dollars have been spent to build roads in Alaska's pristine Tongass National Forest, which benefited logging companies exclusively. Now, with the timber program losing money, the Forest Service is pushing for the Tongass to be open to logging and roads. But this plan has no economic justification! Tell the Forest Service that you will no longer pay for the destruction of valuable wildlife habitat and national treasures. http://go.care2.com/e/R5jr/esWc/S0uZ The Tongass is home to wolves, black and brown bears, five species of wild salmon, bald eagles, wolverine and many other species of rare or endangered wildlife. For the sake of these animals and of the local people whose lifestyle will be devastated if we begin logging, please help by telling the Forest Service it needs to remain a roadless area! Over one million acres have already been lost to logging, which included some of the biggest and best trees in the forest. There are still old-growth trees left, but they are in extreme danger with this new proposed plan. Don't let the administration use our taxpayer dollars to feed America's rainforest to the timber industry. It's destructive and a money-losing venture! http://go.care2.com/e/R5jr/esWc/S0uZ
