PLEASE ATTEND! PLEASE FORWARD! The last* Petland protest will be: Sunday, February 11, 2007, 1:00-2:30 PM. Directions below. If there’s any doubt about the weather, please call 703-642-8367 a couple of hours before the protest to make sure it’s still on. This protest is going to happen unless there’s some really bad weather!

SIGNS WILL BE PROVIDED. Please make the extra effort to park in the areas described below. Just be careful crossing Pickett Rd. This is the big one! Our last Petland protest,

at least for a while, but we’re not ruling out future protests. * We are hoping to start back up in the spring - due to the bitter weather lately and some "burn out" due to weekly and bi-weekly protests for over two years we are now taking time to rest, regroup, but keeping our energies going dealing with Petland, puppy mills, etc in other ways and aspects. Everybody who comes gets a Homemade Cookie! Well, now that you’ve cancelled all your other plans, please come on out! We’re contacting the media, and several people have agreed to be interviewed about their experiences of buying sick puppies at Petland, managing a Petland,

training behaviorally messed-up Petland puppies, and more. Thanks very much, everybody! We also have USDA inspection records about the large number of dogs and miserable conditions at some of Petland’s breeding facilities. 6 inches. Please remember that number when you are explaining to people what a puppy mill is. Imagine you are a dog, any size, in a square cage. Press your rear against one side of the cage. If you have 6 inches of space in front of your nose and 6 inches above your head, that is all the space you need, according to the USDA. Run. Play. Have a good time. You can legally be housed in that cage for your entire life. Of course, nothing is

simple with the USDA, so if the cage is that small, you are supposed to be let out daily for exercise. But that regulation is not enforced and can’t be, with inspectors coming around only about once a year. If the cage is twice that size, the official rule is that you never have to be let out for exercise. Even these sickeningly inadequate standards are frequently violated. These are the “USDA-licensed and inspected breeders” that pet stores brag about. We greatly appreciate the tremendous support and encouragement you have given throughout our fight against Petland and stores like it. This campaign will continue through public outreach at local events, letter-writing campaigns, cooperation with other groups, and the website www.PetStoreCruelty.org. For the puppies, rabbits, birds, ferrets, and all the other animals suffering because of Petland, please come. We’ll have signs and banners, but you’re welcome to bring your own. See you Sunday! Directions: From the Beltway, get off at Exit 52, Route 236 in Annandale, going WEST toward Fairfax. Go several miles. The first mall on the right (near sign for Einstein Bagels) is Pickett Shopping Center. Turn right at the traffic light onto Pickett Road. We'll be on the public sidewalk at the next traffic light, right side of the road, near the wine store. To prevent Petland from calling the police about trespassers, please pass us and park at the next mall over, on the left side of Pickett Road, near McDonald's. Or park at Margate Manor, the apartment complex on 236 just before Pickett Road as you head west. We hear they do not tow without giving notice. The street address of Petland is 9404 Main Street, Fairfax, VA 22031. www.PetStoreCruelty.org all4theanimals Patricia Breen
