Guest guest
Saturday, January 27th is our first National Day of Energy Action. Use this day to get together with your family and friends to help conserve energy and fight global warming. Energy and global warming are huge problems, but the solutions often involve small changes – and they add up to great things when we all do them together. PURPOSE (People United Rightly Protecting Our Sacred Earth) is joining One Corps to promote this important day of action. One Corps is sponsored by the John Edwards presidential campaign, but you don't have to support his campaign if you have a desire to save the planet. There are other candidates who are pro environment and working hard to solve the Climate Change Crises. We're just using this opportunity to get the word out. Join our cause today to protect our sacred Earth now by taking the following actions: 1. Sign the One Corps pledge… -- Be Patriotic: Pledge to do everything you can to conserve energy and fight global warming starting right now (http://www.johnedwards.com/action/one-corps/energy-pledge/). 2. Reduce Your Energy Footprint at Home and at Work… -- Replace your most frequently used light bulbs with compact fluorescent and other energy efficient bulbs. -- Weatherize your home by caulking and weather stripping your doorways and windows . -- Unplug electronics when not in use, including televisions, stereos and computers, which consume electricity even when in " sleep " mode. -- Only run your dishwasher and washing machine with a full load. -- Adjust your thermostat down a couple of degrees. -- Install a low-flow shower head and take shorter showers. -- Keep your water heater thermostat no higher than 120°F. -- Buy local or organic foods. -- Use 100% post consumer recycled paper. -- Enroll in local and green power programs if available in your community -- contact your local power company to find out how. -- Recycle! 3. Reduce Your Energy Footprint on the Road… -- Carpool or use public transportation whenever possible. -- Make sure your car tires are fully inflated. -- Check your car's air filter monthly and replace promptly. -- Buy a hybrid or fuel efficient car and save thousands each year on gas bills. 4. On Saturday, Jan. 27th, work with a local environmental organization in your community, such as One Corps (http://blog.johnedwards.com/one corps)… Here are some things you can plan for your community on the National Day of Energy Action: -- Tabling: Distribute energy efficient light bulbs and energy conservation information at a public space in your town. -- Flyering: Make your own flyers or download flyers from environmental organizations such as One Corps to post throughout your community to educate people on the impact they can have in solving global warming and conserving energy. Make sure you print your flyers on recycled paper, and ensure you get the owner's permission before you display a flyer. -- Service: Form teams to winterize or change the bulbs in a senior center, homeless shelter, community center, or in your neighborhood. 5. Have Other Ideas? -- Share your ideas with family, friends and online. -- Or, add them yourself using the One Corps National Day of Energy Action wiki (http://januarydayofaction.pbwiki.com/). 6. Recruit Others... -- Invite others to take part in the National Day of Energy Action. If you wish, you can use the One Corps invite tool (http://blog.johnedwards.com/invite) to tell your friends about One Corps, the actions you're taking, and how to get involved. -- Tell all your family and friends, your entire address book, about PURPOSE - People United Rightly Protecting Our Sacred Earth.
