Feel free to cross-post as deemed necessaryGovernor Blunt has declared parts of MO as disaster area due to recent storm, power outages. Springfield MO was heavily hit. Once Connie Foster has power again, I have no doubt she will have much to add about this pet situation. Even with the No Pet Left Behind legislation after Katrina, Red Cross & Salvation Army are not allowing pets in their shelters. Evidently, more is needed to make Red Cross & Salvation Army aware of the plight of our companion pets in a disaster situation. Money talks! While most of us in rescue spend every dime on our fur-kids, there are those that support both agencies. Please encourage those folks to withhold donations until Red Cross and Salvation Army make provisions for pets in their shelters during disasters.Any puppy, small pet, any senior pet with medical issues, cannot be left behind! To do so is to sentence them to death. They will freeze to death! I realize there are challenges. Folks with intact animals, cycling, could create chaos. There may need to be some guidelines set up so that pets must be altered, vaccinated. Yet, something MUST be done.If you do approach those agencies, please give constructive hints. Be polite as you state your case.ThanksJudy 7 Bells Judy 660-668-3567Marti, Mary & Susan 7 Bells Sanctuary www.7bellssanctuary.petfinder.com We are a member of The Senior Guardian Angels.
