Protect Florida's Everglades from Development

Recently, five development projects--including two massive golf course communities--were proposed for construction in the Western Everglades in a water flowway known as the Cocohatchee Slough. Together, they would destroy an estimated 1,140 acres of wetlands--virtually all of which provide critical foraging habitat for the wood stork, an endangered wading bird whose U.S. population has plummeted more than 75 percent over the past century. Earlier this year, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency approved two of these developments. RIGHT NOW, they are deciding whether or not to approve the worst of the five, Mirasol.Speak up for Florida's Everglades and the wood stork by sending the email below. Urge three key decision makers to deny the Mirasol project and re-think the other four.
