PLEASE FORWARD The next protest at Petland in Fairfax, Virginia will be: Sunday, December 3, 2006, 1:00-2:30 PM (Directions below) If the weather looks very bad (chilly doesn’t count as bad!), please call 703-642-8367 a couple of hours before the protest to make sure it’s still on. We have plenty of signs about puppy mills, boycotting Petland, and adopting homeless animals of all kinds, but feel free to make your own. Just come! Not just Petland, but ALMOST ALL stores where there is a large selection of very young purebred puppies get these puppies from puppy mills. If the puppies come from out of state, particularly the Midwest or Pennsylvania, that is also a big tip-off that they are puppy mill puppies. While people may see news stories and TV shows about puppy mill busts, they find it hard to believe that THEIR local store could be involved in anything that hurts so many animals, so sometimes you have to name names. Here are some other local stores we understand have sold puppy mill puppies: Burke Pet Center (Burke), Creatures ‘N Critters (Woodbridge), Fox Mill Pets (Herndon), Just Puppies (several in Maryland), Pets Plus (Stafford), and Potomac Kennels (Gaithersburg). If you come across a pet store, please go inside and write to us about it. Check out our website’s ever-expanding “Hall of Shame” for info on pet stores across the country. The general public knows even less about the horrible breeding mills where most pet store birds, rabbits, mice, ferrets, and other animals come from and how stores treat them as disposable. Some of these same animals, bought on impulse and then abandoned, sit sadly in cages at the shelter and are killed when no one adopts them. Sometimes all we need to do is LET PEOPLE KNOW they can adopt a small animal from a shelter or

WEST toward Fairfax. Go several miles. The first mall on the right (near sign for Einstein Bagels) is Pickett Shopping Center. Turn right at the traffic light onto Pickett Road. We'll be on the public sidewalk at the next traffic light, right side of the road, near the wine store. To prevent Petland from calling the police about trespassers, please pass us and park at the next mall over, on the left side of Pickett Road, near McDonald's.
