The information in your e-mail has been passed along to the appropriate staffers here for their review. As you may know, in 1997, PETA conducted an investigation into the treatment of animals at HLS in the United States. As a result of our investigation and subsequent campaign, the facility purportedly lost $10 million dollars in canceled testing contracts. In addition, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) fined HLS $50,000 dollars for numerous violations of the federal Animal Welfare Act (AWA) brought to the agency’s attention by PETA. As a result, HLS brought a lawsuit against PETA. As part of a court settlement, PETA was prevented from partaking in any activity that would directly or indirectly impact HLS. We have, therefore, focused on many other ways to help animals in labs, such as fighting the millions of animal tests planned by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (http://www.peta.org/feat/epa03/), doing undercover investigations in university labs such as Columbia (www.ColumbiaCruelty.com) and two at the University of North Carolina (http://www.peta.org/feat/unc/), and promoting cruelty free products and charities (www.CaringConsumer.com). Also, other organizations have strong campaigns against HLS. Because those groups are successfully exposing the horrors, we can continue to focus on different labs where animals desperately need our help. You can find out more about how to fight cruel animal experiments by going to www.StopAnimalTesting.com, and for additional ways to get active, please visit www.AnimalActivist.com. Thanks again for your e-mail, and for all you do to help animals! PLEASE CROSSPOST ----------------------------- Cornwall's Voice For Animals Saturday, November 04, 2006 1:42 AM STARVING PUPPY HLS CAMBRIDGE UK WHAT THE _____ IS GOING ON - WHY WHY WHY ARE PEOPLE SO CRUEL - SO HEARTLESS - THIS HAS TO STOP STOP STOP STOP !!!!!!!!!!!! - Maria Daines I just heard the most distressing story from a girl on myspace, these are her words - I found out through a friend earlier that HLS in Cambridge UK are starving a puppy for 12 days in preparation for an experiment and whenever staff pass its cage it wags it tail in anticipation of a meal but they pass it by and it lays back down. Its heartbreaking. And its all I can think about right now and it kills me to not be able to do anything. In the morning I am going to contact the RSPCA to see if they will do anything, but thats all I can do. This is the saddest thing I have read in a long while....
