Letter to Burberry

Stop Torturing Animals!

Body: I was shocked to learn that Burberry continues to use real

fur in its designs. There is nothing fashionable or elegant about how

animals are killed in the fur industry. Animals on fur farms spend

their entire lives confined to cramped, filthy wire cages. Fur farmers

use the cheapest and cruelest killing methods available, including

suffocation, electrocution, gassing, and poisoning.

I am disappointed that Burberry is promoting such outdated cruelty

to animals when luxurious cruelty-free materials are readily available.

Whether it comes from minks, foxes, raccoons, chinchillas, beavers,

rabbits, or lynx, fur looks best on its original owners. I refuse to

buy anything from Burberry until it removes fur from its collections.

***************

Burberry may be best known for its distinctive plaid, but its use of

real fur is making the design house synonymous with cruelty to animals.

Burberry continues to use fur in its designs despite the fact that

leading clothing retailers like J.Crew, Ann Taylor, Polo Ralph Lauren,

and others have pulled fur from their stores forever.

Animals on fur farms spend their entire lives confined to cramped,

filthy wire cages, where they are exposed to all weather conditions.

They often go without adequate shelter, clean water, veterinary care,

or the ability to engage in natural behaviors like climbing, burrowing,

and swimming. The intensive confinement causes many of them to go

insane.

Fur farmers use the cheapest and cruelest

killing methods available, including suffocation, electrocution,

gassing, and poisoning. Many animals are electrocuted by having rods

inserted into their rectums and 240 volts sent through their bodies.

The animals convulse, shake, and often cry out before they have heart

attacks and die. Crude killing methods aren’t always effective, and

sometimes animals “wake up” while they are being skinned.

With

so many fashionable, comfortable alternatives available, there is no

excuse for Burberry to continue using fur. Please take a moment to send

a message to Burberry CEO Angela Ahrendts. Tell her that you are

outraged that Burberry still uses the skins of tortured animals in its

clothing and urge her to discontinue the company’s use of real fur.

Tell Burberry’s CEO that you won’t buy from Burberry until

it stops

selling fur. You can copy and paste the following letter into an e-mail

and send it to angela.ahrendts.
