Guest guest
BlueVoice.org WE MUST STOP THE SLAUGHTER OF HUMPBACK WHALES Despite the moratorium on commercial whaling passed in 1982 by the International Whaling Commission, Japan has continued to kill whales, under the guise of “scientific research”. Now Japan and Greenland have announced they will begin hunting Humpback Whales. By clicking on the TAKE ACTION NOW button, you can send a message that this horrific killing must stop. Here is a sample copy of the email. Dear Sir or Madam, I am appalled at the thought that Japan and Greenland may begin hunting Humpback Whales. These animals are far too intelligent and magnificent to be harpooned and turned into meat. In addition, many of these whales are individually known to people and they are the basis for many eco-friendly businesses. I urge you to stop the horrific slaughter of whales. Your name will appear here. http://www.bluevoice.org/jcemail/EmailFromwhales.html JAPAN & GREENLAND TO HUNT HUMPBACKS At the most recent meeting of the International Whaling Commission at St. Kitts Japan made a concerted effort to overturn the worldwide ban on whaling that has been in place nearly twenty years. The also reiterated their plans to hunt humpback whales. The whales Japan is setting out to hunt are individually known along the coasts they visit each winter. Humpbacks that visit French Polynesia, Tonga, Samoa, New Zealand, Australia and South Africa are under the gun. Scientists have identified them individually and millions of tourists have marveled at them. Small eco-friendly businesses depend on them. Now these whales are threatened with a hideously cruel death by harpoon. This is an outrage without parallel in Japan ’s defiance of world opinion. The nation that allows the unspeakable slaughter of thousands of dolphins, that has helped reduce whale populations to tiny fractions of their former numbers, will now hunt humpback whales. Greenland asked the IWC to examine whether it could extend whaling by its Inuit hunters to endangered humpbacks and bowheads, alarming environmentalists. Anti-whaling nations said they were opposed to the proposal given the fragile state of most whale species. Greenland is a semi-autonomous nation. Denmark is responsible for its foreign policy and defense and voted with the whaling nations. ---------- ----
