Guest guest
Speak Up for Endangered Species!Save the Manatee Club Speak Up for Endangered Species! Help Ensure Strong Environmental Laws for Manatees and Other Endangered Species The Bush administration is holding a series of " listening sessions " across the country as it promotes its " Cooperative Conservation " agenda. The administration has already proposed a package of cooperative conservation legislation (pdf) that would weaken the Endangered Species Act and the Clean Water Act, and they may use input from these listening sessions to promote these and other harmful changes to environmental laws. That's why it's vital for you to respond with a strong conservation message. What You Can Do: 1. Submit A Comment Letter You can help by getting on the record as a supporter of a strong Endangered Species Act and other environmental laws. Please below to submit a quick and easy online letter by September 30th. The letter will go to Beth Duff at the U.S. Department of the Interior and will let the Bush administration know that voluntary conservation efforts complement, but absolutely cannot replace, strong environmental laws. If you would like to submit a personal letter or email, Ms. Duff's contact information is featured below. http://www.savethemanatee.org/actionalert.cfm?id=20 If you've been involved in a local cooperative effort to protect endangered species, you can speak from personal experience about how environmental protections brought people in your community together to conserve natural resources. These stories will greatly increase the strength of your comments. 2. Attend a Listening Session In Your Area You can also click here to check for listening sessions in your area that you may be able to attend in person. Listening sessions for Florida are scheduled for September 15 in Virginia Key and on September 25, 2006 in Orlando. http://cooperativeconservation.gov/sessions/index.html 3. Please Forward This Action Alert To Friends and Relatives Contact Information: Beth Duff U.S. Department of the Interior 1849 C Street NW, Mail Stop 5258 Washington, D.C. 20240 Email: Beth_Duff Fax: 202-208-7574 Thanks for your help on this important issue for manatees! Special thanks to our friends at the Center for Biological Diversity for providing information on this topic.
