Toronto-Danforth By-Election

 

Tabuns says no to coal and nuclear

Chin prefers non-nuclear options

 

March 21, 2006 - Toronto-Danforth NDP candidate

PeterTabuns supports the phase-out of Ontario’s coal

plants by 2009 and isopposed to the construction of

new nuclear reactors in Ontario, accordingto the

results of a survey released by the Ontario Clean Air

Alliance(OCAA) today.

 

Liberal candidate Ben Chin also supports a complete

coal phase-out by2009. In response to the OCAA’s

question: “Are you opposed to theconstruction of new

nuclear reactors in Ontario?” Mr. Chin replied:

“Ifthere’s a way to meet Ontario’s supply needs

without using nuclear power,I will support it.”

 

Green candidate Paul Charbonneau supports the 2009

coal phase-out dateand is “completely opposed to new

nuclear reactors in Ontario.”

 

The PC Party candidate, Georgina Blanas, did not

respond to the OCAAsurvey.

 

The OCAA also surveyed the Liberal, PC, NDP and Green

candidates in theNepean-Carleton and Whitby-Ajax

by-elections. The candidates fullresponses are posted
