I apologize if my email is off topic but the situation is very urgent. As pet lovers, I'm sure you're against any kind of animal suffering. You can help end the suffering of baby seals, please read below. Thanks. There is less than 3 months left to help Canadian baby seals. Please go to http://www.harpseals.org/help.html to donate. Even $5 would help save the seals. Then, forward this email to friends and family members and ask them to do the same. Such a simple way to help the seals and not break your bank account, less than the price of lunch. I encourage you to type a short personal message as you forward it on. Please remind your inner circle there only less than 3 months to stop this from happening again this year. Thanks for

caring. Happy Holidays, #!#first_name#!#, As 2005 comes to an end, this is a good time to take stock. Our goal is to end the annual massacres of harp seals in Canada, before March 2006, when another 300,000 or more seal pups would otherwise be killed.

Over the course of 2005, we have made some good strides in the boycott of Canadian seafood, our main strategy to end this atrocity. We really need your help now in these next 3 months to achieve our goal! Boycott Summary: Over 150 companies have pledged to stop buying at least some Canadian seafood. Canadian sales to the US market are about CAN$200 million lower for the first three quarters of 2005, compared to the same period last year. See the side bar for more information about these developments. Latest news items: The champion of animal causes and rock 'n roll great, Sir Paul McCartney, has joined the fight to end the harp seal massacres. The actress who made the seals famous by posing with a whitecoat on the ice in the 1980's, Brigitte

Bardot, made headlines recently by serving as a witness in a mock trial of Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin. And a well known and highly respected businessman, Edward A. Kangas, has expressed his concern in a strongly worded letter to Canadian PM Paul Martin. You'll find details on these news items here. And Harpseals.org with all our super-volunteers across the country, is educating millions of people about how they can help stop these massacres by boycotting Canadian seafood (and staying out of Red Lobster restaurants, as long as the restaurants keep buying Canadian seafood). You can learn about what we're doing on our ad page and our outreach

page. Here is a short list of what we've been doing, which we hope will inspire you. We've been running radio commercials in Omaha, to go along with our billboard and regular leafletting, tabling at events (like major concerts), and working the media. Super-volunteer Marie has even been interviewed on the local news and super-volunteer Melanie has had great letters to editors published, even in national papers. In southern California, we had a great benefit concert for the seals, for which we ran print ads and radio ads and distributed thousands of flyers, complete with

information about the seal campaign and the Canadian seafood boycott; we've been reaching out to hundreds of thousands of people by tabling at major festivals; and we've made presentations to students. The seals are grateful for the amazing efforts of our southern California super-volunteers Sue, Robb, Debbie, Jennifer, and Kim with help from many others too numerous to name here. We are currently working on purchasing outdoor advertising and radio commercials in Los Angeles to educate millions more people. In Miami, we've been tabling at festivals and a pedestrian mall on Miami Beach and leafletting at Red Lobster

restaurants. We are also looking into outdoor advertising here. We are currently working on running ad campaigns in 2 to 3 other cities around the U.S.. These will involve outdoor advertising (such as billboards) and radio commercials. We would also like to run TV commercials and print ads, but we depend on YOU to provide us with the funds for these initiatives. Since we are a 501©(3) non-profit organization, your donations are tax deductible to the full extent of the law. What's more, we are all volunteers and operate with very low overhead, so almost every penny you donate goes directly into the advertising campaign for the seals. We need YOU to step up to the plate now, and help us raise money for TV commercials, billboards in major cities around the country, radio commercials and print ads. With your help, we can raise the

$500,000 we need to run a major campaign in 10 cities across the U.S. Please donate today! Here's a summary of how you can help us achieve our goal. Contact us for more information: Distribute leaflets at Red Lobster restaurants, supermarkets, pet stores, post offices, etc. Order leaflets here. Be sure to indicate the quantity you want and include your address. Set up an information table at various venues in your town, including flea markets, farmers' markets, concerts, pedestrian malls, stadiums, etc. We'll help with any permits or fees required and send you materials to display, hand

out and sell at your table. Recruit local restaurants to the boycott. Ask us for tips and materials. Help us raise funds by purchasing t-shirts and other merchandise from Harpseals.org. Wearing this apparel also helps to spread the word about the campaign! Donate or raise funds for the seal ads by taking up a collection in your office or school; organizing a benefit concert or talent show; asking local clubs, stores, or restaurants to donate a portion of their profits from one night to Harpseals.org; or throwing a Seal fundraising party. Give presentations at local schools and colleges. We are currently working on presentation materials. Ask us for them and we will send them to you as soon as they are available. Write letters to editors of newspapers and magazines and to owners of stores and restaurants that sell Canadian seafood; call into talk shows; contact your local media regularly--be persistent. Ask us for tips on dealing with the media. Recruit local celebrities to the cause--they can help raise funds and get media attention for the seals. Networking is the key! If you have special skills that you think may help us help the seals, such as advertising and marketing skills, or if you have commercial property where we could display a sign for the seals, please let us know! Let's keep up the great work and win this one for the seals! Details on Developments in the Boycott Campaign Restaurant recruitment For a list of restaurants and stores that have pledged to boycott all or some Canadian seafood, visit the HSUS web site here. Congratulations to Fia in California and Loraine in New York for doing a super job in recruiting restaurants. Since some of these companies have chosen to boycott only certain seafood from Canada, please check labels or ask where

seafood is from before purchasing. If you see Canadian seafood in any of these establishments, please let them know that you are boycotting all Canadian seafood and wish that they would do the same. Seafood Sales in the U.S. Statistics on Canadian seafood sales are available online at the DFO website and the Statistics Canada website. Here are the statistics for total exports from Canada to the U.S. for the past 6 years (in thousands of Canadian dollars): 2005 (Jan-Oct): 2,228,1552004 (Jan-Oct): 2,432,391 (whole year): 2,823,5242003:

3,007,8722002: 3,273,2612001: 3,065,7532000: 2,899,3191999: 2,583,531 As you can see, sales are lower this year than for the same period last year. Since sales fluctuate from year to year and changing quotas and catches affect sales, it is difficult to determine the degree to which the boycott has affected sales. If you have experience in market analysis and would like to help assess the seal campaign, please contact us.
