It's a bit of a quiet month here as we close out the year, but that's not to say there's nothing worth braving the cold for. In fact we start off bright and early tomorrow with an event to help get the Park ready for the cold of winter and follow that up with two more new segments in our Green Renter series that are sure to help you make 2006 your most sustainable year ever. Plus, some holiday parties.

Saturday, December 3, 10am-2pm - Free

Park Winter Work Day - with Park Manager Melissa McDonald

 

Help put the Park to bed for the winter. Activities will include cutting back perennials, removal of leaves and general park cleanup. This event will be held outside, so don't forget to dress warmly. Coffee and other hot beverages and pizza will be provided.

 

 

 

 

Tuesday, December 6, 7pm - Free

The Green Renter - Greening Your Portfolio: An Introduction to Environmentally Effective Investing

 

Is your 401(k) simply helping to line the pockets of corporate polluters? How do you know which Mutual Funds target socially responsible businesses? Which sustainable companies should you invest in? Where you put your money can have as big of an impact on the world as the food and products that you buy. Bruce Kahn, PhD of Smith Barney Citigroup will lead this workshop to help socially-conscious inverstors preserve and grow their assets while also examining the benefits that these movements of capital can have.

Origami Tree Decorations, 2-4pm

Joy Garland of the Stuyvesant Cove Park Association will lead this session that will culminate in the decoration of our park tree.

 

Holiday Party, 4-7pm

Solar One invites one and all for this event - our way of saying "Thanks!" to everyone for making this such a successful year. Join us for traditional holiday treats like mulled wine, egg nog, cookies, music, caroling and more.

Join Andy Mele - the founder of Clearwater - for a discussion of ways that you can personally reduce the output of Carbon Dioxide into the atmosphere by several tons. That's right, tons, and it probably won't hurt a bit.
