Our lives are full of chemicals. From toys to computers, carpets to clothes, furniture to washing powders, man-made chemicals are used in virtually all products. Some chemicals are known to be toxic, but we know very little about many others. A growing body of scientific evidence confirms that many chemicals are building up in our environment and the human body – and may cause cancers, birth defects and other long-term problems.

After years failing to protect us, governments and nations are finally waking up to these dangers. The European Union is working on legislation which will force manufacturers to provide vital health information on thousands of chemicals for the first time. This draft legislation is called REACH – the Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals.

But REACH is threatened by the global chemical industry, which, with the help of the current US government, is fighting hard to make REACH industry-friendly by weakening the rules.

Your voice counts – act NOW for a toxics-free future

If you’re worried about the dangerous levels of toxics in everyday products, and you want a safer, healthier future for yourself and your family, then help turn REACH into a powerful and positive law by lobbying your Member of the European Parliament (MEP) now. (Taking part in this online action is simple, quick – less than 5 minutes – and effective.)

Act NOW for a toxics-free future

Step 1: Select your country

This 3-step action will make your voice heard in less than 5 minutes.

The EU Parliament will take a crucial vote on the chemicals legislation in November. One third of the Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) have pledged to vote for a phase-out of harmful chemicals, but others have not made this commitment.

Urge your MEPs to vote for strong legislation now, and remind them of their pledge to the public if they have signed.

Simply click on your country in the map or list below.
