This round facility that is rising behind these sand dunes is ARENA' where basketball championship is taking place in Belgrade. on this photo- one Dog is still alive (on top of the sand dune) and the other one is dead (on the bottom of this dune) This Dalmatinan female was slowly dying by aghonising death on the sidewalk, while «the game is ON» She lived in this neigbourhood 6 years (one russian woman left her on the street 7 years ago...) She did not represent a treath to citizens!!! This dear female was still alive, while our reporter was taking these disturbing photos.... Veterinian *that came to crime scene with dog catchers, instead to take her to ambulance- or to give her help on the sight, he throwed her in dog catchers truck!!! Some Vet. !!??? This same Vet. attacked our reporter and tried to take her camera! He even pusshed her on sand (and she is old enough to be his mother)! Poison-lead to most painfull death. City officials are «washing hands» of this vicious, barbarious act! They are acting like they dont know whats going on... But it's well known fact that firm EKO SAN is poisoning our beloved ones for long time and this same firm got this job from city officials! Why do they hate Animals so much? These Dogs were not agressive and did not represent treath to citizens! This pile of garbage (100 meters behind ARENA) -did not bother them- but Dogs did!?? more photos: http://www.evropskainicijativa17.bravehost.com/Kapmanje.html Please, send your protest letter - please protest against these vicious crimes! However evidence shows that a war continues; only this time it is a war against Companion Animals (Dogs and Cats). Thousands of animals have been inhumanely rounded up, tortured, hanged, shot, beaten with sticks and rocks, burned and poisoned in order to make Belgrade's streets pristine for your 2005 European Basketball championship, causing this sporting event to be smeared with blood. Serbian officials have ignored the cries and pleas of individuals in Serbia and worldwide to halt these atrocities and implement better animal welfare laws and policies. Since this savage massacre was caused by the preparations for your sporting event, I would ask you and the sponsors of the 2005 FIBA Eurochampionships to denounce these atrocities publicly. I would also ask that you urge the Serbian government to cease the brutal round up of animals, legislate and enforce better animal welfare laws and implement a sterilization (spay / neuter) program for all companion animals living on the streets throughout Serbia. We appreciate your help in this cause. (name) (country) Brigitte Bardot's protest letter> To: Basketball Federation, Sazonova Str.83, 11000 Belgrade, SERBIA Open Letter Mr. President, A few weeks prior to the European Basket Championship to be held in Belgrade , I wish to draw your attention to the brutal practice of the City authorities aimed at eliminating the stray animals before this sports event. I suppose that you are aware of the death squadrons moving around the city and searching for animals in order to poison a great many of them, the animals that used to be fed and fondled by their numerous protectors. Substances like detergents and others, which are used for their killing, cause unbearable suffering and agony. Moreover, those innocent beings have become objects of lower instincts of a part of the population to which, as it seems, the brutal torturing of animals is a source of sadistic satisfaction. This is impermissible in view of the fact that Belgrade authorities contacted my Foundation back in 2002 asking help in terms that the Foundation provide funds necessary for sterilization, vaccination and identification of hundreds of stray dogs, with a view to adopting a humane and civilized method. Today, continuous massacres have made the City of Belgrade a theatre of horror. Numerous dogs have not managed to escape the poisoning, crippling and other forms of maltreatment. Last April, I wrote to Mr. Boris Tadic, President of Serbia, asking him to condemn such barbarous behaviour and to support the sterilization campaign. Today, I am writing to you as it is not human that organization of the European Championship requires a high toll in lives of dogs. There is nothing that can justify such barbarous «cleansing». I am confident that the support of the Basketball Federation to the sterilization campaign of dogs and the raising of its voice against the senseless genocide will have an important echo in the public opinion and with the authorities. Only by providing regular information and by working constantly on developing the feeling for this issue can we stir up sympathy and a change in the mentality and behaviour towards animals. It is my deep belief that you can participate in, and contribute to such evolution. I wholeheartedly hope to be able to count with your support in this respect. Hoping you will show respect for my opinion and act accordingly please accept, Mr. President, my most sincere regards. I also wish much success to your national team in the forthcoming European Basketball Championship - " Euro2005 " . Brigitte BARDOT President PRESS RELEASE MASSACRE OF STRAY ANIMALS IN BELGRADE IN THE NAME OF SPORTS Between 16 and 25 September 2005 Belgrade will be hosting the European Basketball Championship - «EUROBASKET 2005». Unfortunately, organization of such events is accompanied by the sufferings, agony and massacre since the city authorities have decided to intensify the extermination of the Capital's stray dogs. Thus, hundreds of dogs are killed every week in the name of sports! Like many other organizations worldwide, Mrs. Brigitte Bardot whose Foundation financed in Belgrade in 2002 the campaign of Belgrade stray dogs sterilization and vaccination, is joining the disclosure and condemnation of such barbarous behaviour. After writing to Serbia's President Tadic in April this year asking him to exercise his authority so as to have such torturing of the man's best friend brought to end, Madame Bardot is writing today to Mr. Miodrag BABIÆ, President of the Basketball Federation of Serbia and Montenegro and to Mr. Ivan MAIMIMA, his French colleague, to raise their voices against such brutal «cleansing», but also to advocate the campaigns of sterilization as the only humane, efficient and sustainable mode for preventing the reproduction of the stray dogs population. In parallel with these actions, Brigitte Bardot Foundation will finance starting from 26 September 2005 a campaign of disclosing such massacres, by way of billboards in the streets of Belgrade, in an effort to make the public opinion more sensitive to this specific issue. The campaign will be carried out in cooperation with the local «Evropska inicijativa 17» Association. Boris TADIC Andricev Venac br. 1, 11 000 BEOGRAD, SERBIA and MONTENEGRO Open letter Dear Mr. President, It's with a bruised heart and a mourning soul that I appeal to you to end the revolting massacre of Serbia 's stray animals. A number of accounts, accompanied by photos illustrating the horror of the cruelties inflicted on these innocent beings, have reached my Foundation. These accounts denounced the atrocity of the eradication campaigns, led at the request of the authorities. Vilified by the media, these dogs and cats are becoming the scapegoats of a part of your population, which seems to take sadistic pleasure in savagely torturing them. Equally, death squadrons methodically patrol each region of Belgrade in order to mass poison the few survivors of this eradication. The detergents and other products that are used generate intolerable agony and suffering. Furthermore, what about the corpses of the dogs whose fur is carefully removed? I know that your country and people are attempting to heal wounds, which were inherited from a shameful and violent war. However, that was ten years ago. Today is the time for the reconstruction of hearts and a long forgotten humanity. The knowledge of atrocious acts committed regularly on stray animals crosses frontiers. Your people have shown their bloody and criminal behavior towards animals. Your capital is becoming, like Bucharest , a window of horror. Neither the Belgrade marathon, nor the 2005 euro basketball can justify this barbaric " cleaning " . You have the power to change all this and to restore Serbia's dignity. Push the elaboration of an animal welfare bill, which favors sterilization and vaccination campaigns for stray animals, similar to Greece and Turkey. Teach your people that animals, even strays, have the right to our respect and compassion. With hope that you hear my cry of distress, sincerely yours, Brigitte Bardot, President 4 The Animals!
