Note: forwarded message attached.

To help you stay safe and secure online, we've developed the all new Security Centre.

At the June 2005 Inter-American Tropical Tunas Commission (IATTC) meeting, an

international ban on the finning of sharks in the Eastern Pacific Ocean was

adopted. The resolution was co-sponsored by the United States, the European

Union, Japan, and Nicaragua. This resolution is also designed to improve

information about sharks in Eastern Pacific fisheries by mandating much-needed

data collection and assessment programs. It encourages IATTC members to conduct

research in shark nursery areas and study new ways for fishermen to avoid

incidental bycatch of sharks.

I appreciate your support of this important achievement for shark conservation.

If you wish to receive a regular update on fisheries issues, please consider

signing up for our weekly e-newsletter by visiting

www.nmfs.noaa.gov/fishnews.htm . You can also view each weekly issue online at

this website (under Archives) if you prefer not to .

Sincerely,
