Help Make History: Global Warming Vote is Near

As you may know, a global warming vote is again at hand.

Most Americans, the business community, and many religious leaders support global warming solutions, and now is Congress's chance to act. The best solution -- the McCain-Lieberman Climate Stewardship and Innovation Act (S. 1151). It is the only bill that sets a hard cap on greenhouse gas pollution nationwide, using market incentives to help business reduce emissions efficiently.

The Senate has begun debate on a wide-ranging energy bill, and the McCain-Lieberman proposal is expected to be introduced as an amendment. We expect a vote on this historic climate action very soon. This is a critical moment. Send an email asking your senators to support the only REAL global warming solution -- the McCain-Lieberman bill.

Send a letter to the following decision maker(s): Your Senators

Below is the sample letter:

Support a Firm Global Warming Cap - S.1151

Dear [decision maker name automatically inserted here],

Momentum is growing in America for action on climate change. But this momentum should not be an excuse to do the wrong thing on global warming. As your constituent, I urge to support the only global warming bill that sets an national cap on greenhouse gas pollution - the McCain-Lieberman Climate Stewardship and Innovation Act. I urge you to oppose other global warming bills, particularly proposals from Senators Chuck Hagel and Jeff Bingaman, that fail to create firm caps on emissions.Global warming is a big concern for me, my family, America and the world. This new bill would make sensible and affordable cuts in greenhouse gases by creating an emissions trading market that brings America's economic ingenuity to the fight against global warming. Supporting the Climate Stewardship and Innovation Act would demonstrate your leadership on an issue of worldwide importance. Please write back and let me know your position on this legislation. Thank you.

Sincerely,Paulo Daniel

What's At Stake:A vote is nearing on global warming. As momentum grows behind the need for global warming solutions in America, Senators John McCain (R-AZ) and Joe Lieberman (D-CT) recently reintroduced an updated version of their climate legislation in the U.S. Senate. The new bill, the Climate Stewardship and Innovation Act (S. 1151), is our best legislative tool to address global warming.

The McCain-Lieberman bill is the only bill in Congress that would set a firm national cap on America's heat-trapping greenhouse gas emissions. It would use an innovative, business-friendly trading system, innovated by Environmental Defense, to give industry new incentives to reduce emissions, while helping America's economy grow and become more efficient.

Other Global Warming Bills in Congress Only Delay ActionThe Senate may consider two other global warming bills, but these bills provide no firm limits on the global warming pollution in the U.S.

Take action!Tell your senators that you support effective global warming solutions like the Climate Stewardship and Innovation Act.
