Guest guest
Hello all, My name is Lynne and I am very concerned with the current state of our environment and the rapidly shrinking natural habitats. I have joined this group to share information, thoughts, and ideas with others who share similar concerns, and to also broaden my knowledge of other concerns, such as animal rights issues, as well. I have some information concerning another proposed attempt to drill oil in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge that others may very well want to be aware of....This is not a spam message, nor am I attempting to advertise the group from which this message originated, I am simply passing along valuable information... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I need your help today to stop a sneak attack on the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. For the fourth year in a row, oil industry allies in both the House and the Senate are trying to add language to the federal budget bill that would open the Arctic up to oil drilling. We've stopped them in the past, and we must stop them again: http://www.care2.com/go/z/21626 Senate Energy Committee Chair Pete Domenici (R-NM) and his allies in the House plan to attach a drilling proposal to the budget resolution to circumvent Congress' normal process for contentious legislation. They know they could never pass a bill to open up the Arctic to drilling - polls show that a strong majority of Americans oppose drilling in the Arctic. And drilling has repeatedly been defeated in Congress, despite the fact that it is a cornerstone of Bush's industry-friendly energy plan. So they need to sneak drilling into the budget bill, which they know Congress needs to pass. But drilling in the Arctic has nothing to do with the federal budget. It has everything to do with destroying pristine wilderness for oil and money, and devastating the calving grounds of hundreds of thousands of caribou just to fuel America's oil addiction for a few months. Please act today to urge both your Representative and your Senators to stop any attempts in the next two weeks to add pro-drilling language to the federal budget bill. Spend a few minutes looking at this " Arctic Journey " slideshow from The Wilderness Society and photographer John Dunne. You'll be reminded of just how unique and precious this majestic wilderness is, and why we can't stop working to protect it from oil drilling and other threats. http://www.care2.com/go/z/21628
