Guest guest
Crosspost from Petfinder. Last Chance Arkansas is about to go under. It has only a few volunteers and only one photographer, Lori Scott Nakai. As some of you know, she took up the LCA torch from me during the stress of building a new home, only to be abandoned by me after death of both of my parents in Feb. She is totally burned out. Not only did she take over LCA, but AIRE (AR Independent Rescue Effort) was borne shortly after she started volunteering. AIRE, for those who don't know, is basically run from people up in the NE part of the country, who aid in out of state transports from LRAS (Little Rock Animal Services). So, Lori is the local guy. She does a LOT of the " leg work " to get these animals out of LRAS and on the " puppy bus " to the NE (tough job in itself!). She works full time, has many dogs of her own, is basically running 2 rescue groups, and goes to LRAS almost daily. She is emotionally and physically drained. Her job has been threatened. She's at the breaking point...I MUST rescue her, just as she rescued me from LRAS/LCA. I am pleading, begging for HELP! I managed to raise funds thru Petfinders for a digital camera to be donated to LCA. Now, the dilema, who do I give it to? How many volunteers have passed thru LRAS' doors? How many have I and Lori trained to help us with LCA? Most only stay a few weeks...some a few months...but never very long. It's because they think it will be fun, they get to play with the animals, offer comfort and love, only to see them die? It quickly becomes obvious, it's not for the soft- hearted. How can I give a $300 camera to a " newbie " ? I'd donate to LRAS if I thought for a moment they would acutally USE it. But they won't. I'm sorry, but my heart cannot take any more this year...Lori's can't either. The LCA pics have saved HUNDREDS of lives. What happens if they stop? No more LCA, no more AIRE, no more Petfinders, no more out of state transports, no more linking to Lost and Found in the ARDEMGAZ. What little chance the LRAS animals had is gone. No chance for a loving touch, no chance for a soft bed and a full belly, no chance for toys, no chance for a family to worship, no chance for anything except a cold needle and the " blue stuff " . SOMEONE HELP US! Sincerely, Holly Barrett founder - www.lastchancearkansas.org In honor of Lori Scott Nakai #1 LCA gal (and the Olin Mills of shelter photography)
